On November 25, Doctor Tie Su, tenure associate professor in the Business School of the University of Miami(UM), visited our university and began

his work as "Famous Overseas Professor". Professor Fan Xiaoping, the Vice President of HUFE met with him in the meeting hall in the

administration building, accompanied by Wang Yinmei, the Director of Academic Affairs Office, Wang Huaqiu, the Director of the Finance

Department, Peng Aiping, the Secretary of the general Party branch of Finance Department, Liu Zheng, the Deputy Director of Publicity and Unified Front Work Department, Ling Fei, the Deputy Director of International Affairs Office and representative teachers of Finance Department.

Doctor Tie Su now works in the University of Miami. He holds a bachelor's degree in statistics from Beijing University, a master's degree in statistics

and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His research area covers option pricing, market micro-structure and

corporate finance. Till now more than 20 theses of his research work have appeared in top international journals such as Journal of Financial

Economics, Journal of Business, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Management Science. As a member of American Finance Association and Financial Management Association, he has been working on CFA teaching and textbook compilation since 1996, and he is also a

Becker CFA lecturer and assessment expert.

Professor Fan Xiaoping expressed warm welcome to Dr. Tie Su and showed great delights to his visit as the first "Famous Overseas Professor"in our school supported by the Education Department of Hunan Province. He gave a brief introduction of our university, especially of Finance Major,

and hoped that the visit of Dr. Su could promote the development of Finance Major and its cooperation with other majors.

Doctor Tie Su introduced the situation of University of Miami. UM is located in Florida, U.S.A., with more than 14000 students and 13 schools,

ranking 38th among all the American universities in 2009. Medical School is the biggest one in UM, whose ophthalmology department is ranked No.1 in America. Other schools like Oceanology, Music and Business also have high ranks with their special advantages in America. UM attaches great

importance to the cultivation of the quality of students, especially that of doctoral students, which is ensured by the wide implementation of knock-out system. The evaluation system for scientific research is harsh for its teaching staffs in UM, who can only have tenure by severe tests.

President Fan Xiaoping hoped that Dr. Tie Su could introduce advanced ideas of teaching and scientific research in America to our university through academic lectures, panel discussions and demo class teaching, thus promoting the development of our discipline construction.

Dr. Tie Su's visit to our university is a big event in our international exchange, signifying the successful application of our school's first "Famous Overseas Professor" project supported by the Education Department of Hunan Province. According to the schedule, he worked in our university for one

week participating in the teaching and scientific research in our university by lectures on such topics as CFA Charter, and discussions with teachers

and students about the finance program. His visit would help with the discipline construction and talent training in HUFE, setting a good example as

a "Famous Overseas Professor".
