In order to help the students learn English better, stimulate their study enthusiasm and improve their ability in using English, the Office of International Affairs invited a foreign teacher, Ms. Francey Caroline Ruth Anne, who comes from Canada, to hold a lecture on English learning, of which the topic was “English from Native Speaker”. Ruth has been the oral English teacher in our university since 2012. She is very kind and warm-hearted, and is

conscientious in her work, so she is deeply loved by her students. She was named as the 2013-2014 Hunan “My Favorite Foreign Teacher”.

The lecture was held in Room520 of the Office Building at 3 p.m. May 21th, 2014. Many students and teachers from different majors and grades attended

the lecture. The lecture began with the humorous self-introduction of Ruth, and then she poses a short English tongue twister to lead to the main content of

her lecture “how to learn native English”. Ruth recommended many useful methods of learning English from four aspects of listening, speaking, reading

and writing,by using a lot of examples and explanations. The most unforgettable section of the lecture was that Ruth asked some students to repeat the

English stories she told them before with their own words, and the other interactive games also brought students a lot of fun. At the end of the lecture, Ruth

answered patiently many questions from students about their confusions and difficulties in leaning English.

After the lecture, Ruth said even though she got a sore throat after the two hour lecture, but she felt very gratified because the students listened so

carefully. Many students benefited a lot from the English learning methods introduced in the lecture.They expressed their expectation to communicate with

Ruth again, and hoped our university could hold more English activities in the future.
